His Mercies are New, Fresh and Abundant Every Morning!

I am still stoked about the incredible experience we all had yesterday during Dominique’s first horseback riding lesson at Quantum Leap Farm in Odessa. Over a year ago we decided to put her on the long waiting list for special needs horseback riding lessons. In January we finally received a phone call that she could start in February with her lessons. In a moment like this I often carry two opposing emotions inside of me. One that is so happy and eager to start the new adventure and the other that sends off warning signs to not expect too much and approach our “new life adventures” with caution.

Long story short, as we drove to the farm, I laid out several different scenarios on how her first lesson could look like and prayed that she would have a first good experience.

At first our girl approached this new environment and setting as expected. She was very uncomfortable, and her huge fear was written all over her face. Her eyes were fixed on the ground and she did not want anything to do with the horse, the carrots or the helmet.

I showed her the black helmet and wore it for a while to show her that it is safe and ok to wear it. At this point we considered it a huge success if she would watch us feeding her horse Shauna with a few carrots.

After I offered her to hold one carrot, which she reluctantly did, the unforeseen happened in an instant. She quickly got up and walked straight to the horse and stretched her arm out to feed her!! We all stood there with wide open eyes and mouths and cheered for her.

We quickly guided her to the mounting ramp where she got closer to the horse. Carrie, her instructor, suggested that I should mount the horse first and ride for one round which was brilliant. It was a huge team effort and we all were totally in synch without too many explanations and instructions.

When I got off the horse, I gave her a big hug and the next spectacular moment happened. She allowed us to put the helmet on her head and mounted the horse with our assistance. The unexpected and most breathtaking moment unfolded right in front of our eyes. We all walked with her surrounding the horse securing her while she rode along the parkour several times. It was an indescribable moment. My heart was leaping up and down for joy and my eyes were filled with water while I watched her like a hawk.

Her face and countenance started to change and the fear in her eyes seemed to evaporate.

Lamentations 3:21-23 says: “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

What does it mean that His mercies are new every morning for us?

It means that God has good things to give us every day. He has custom tailored blessings for that specific day for areas we struggle in. These blessings pop up when we least expect it and shower us with His overwhelming passion and love. Because of His steadfast love His mercies never run out and He provides for us exactly what we need for that day.

Everything went so fast that I could not take any pictures, but I promise you that in the weeks to come I will make sure that we will find a way to capture her progress. Thank you for coming along with us on this new adventure.

I pray that we will be reminded daily of His steadfast love and mercies that never cease.

Let’s keep our eyes open so that we become able to discover the precious blessings He pours out over us graciously with every breath we take.
